Description:
We are seeking a motivated and independent student to assist with research operations at the Hasler Laboratory of Limnology. The main role of the position would be to support the Laboratory Manager and all the researchers doing limnological research in both the field and lab. The Center for Limnology’s mission is to exemplify The Wisconsin Idea by providing new knowledge and information on aquatic ecosystems through research, education, outreach and public service; and to facilitate and support research and teaching.

Responsibilities:
- Assisting a wide variety of researchers with their daily needs
- may include assisting project leads with fieldwork or lab work as needed
- Safe operation of UW–Madison boats and fleet vehicles
- Launching and towing boats using a UW fleet vehicle
- Light boat motor maintenance
- Assist with field and lab equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Help coordinate laboratory and facility general maintenance
Qualifications:
- Boating experience (completion of Wisconsin Boater Safety Course will be required upon hire)
- Valid driver’s license which meets UW Risk Management standards is required.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
- Handy with tools and a willingness to be trained
- Be willing to be flexible with job duties on a daily basis
Details:
- Number of positions: 1
- Hours and work schedule: Part-time, approximately 15-20 hours/week, between May-Sept 2026; Hours and days worked are somewhat flexible, but most work will be during normal business hours (M-F 8-5)
- Start date: Flexible; preferably May 11th
- End date: mid/late August 2026
- Pay: $14.50 no experience; $14.75 some experience; $15.00 very experienced
Location and Housing:
This position is based full-time at Hasler Lab at the Center for Limnology in Madison, WI. Housing is not provided. Parking at the CFL/on campus is also not included.
