Employer: Cassie Ceballos (she/her) and Hannah Agner (she/her)
Description:
The Stanley Lab is looking to hire two enthusiastic and resourceful undergraduate students to work as field/laboratory assistants this summer. The position is based at the Center for Limnology’s Hasler Lab (Madison) and involves local travel to sample lakes, streams, and rivers. This position is part of two ongoing projects: investigating patterns and drivers of greenhouse gas dynamics in human-dominated streams in the Yahara Watershed AND how rising lake water levels have changed water quality and biological organisms of a seepage lake (Fish Lake, Wisconsin).
The student hired for this position will provide support for weekly sampling of water and sediment samples at multiple sites and analyze water quality parameters in the laboratory. The student must be willing to have occasional long days, work in potentially adverse weather conditions, and be comfortable working on a boat. Sample collection may include the use of canoes or wading into rivers and streams. Experience trailering and driving small watercraft is desirable but not required. Preparation and data entry for sampling are required on these projects.
Having students with different life experiences and backgrounds is critical to ensure the exchange of diverse ideas that is called for in training tomorrow’s scientists. Because we are actively working to increase diversity and inclusivity in our discipline, underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
