We are looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr. Hilary Dugan and Dr. Paul Hanson at the Center for Limnology, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This position is part of a newly funded NSF project that will advance modeling technology for the lake ecology community. The project aims to develop the GLM-AED modeling environment into robust, easy to use software that will be broadly adopted by the ecological community as a standard lake-reservoir model for research, education, and outreach. The successful applicant should have experience in freshwater science and ecosystem modeling, and be proficient in – or capable of learning – some computer programing. While helping to develop the GLM-AED environment, the postdoc will incorporate numerical simulations into research projects that advance our biological understanding of lakes and reservoirs.
The postdoc will be given leadership and management opportunities and will work closely with many of the collaborators on the project advisory committee. These collaborations will expose the postdoc to a range of fields including data management, computer science, ecology, and modeling. The postdoc will also supervise undergraduate technicians and researchers, thereby gaining important advisory skills. At the University of Wisconsin, the postdoc will have the opportunity to participate in workshops on professional development. UW has an active Office of Postdoctoral Studies, which provides information on funding, positions, support, and policies, and provides career and skills training.
The position is funded for two years, contingent upon a successful year 1 review. Salary is $49k plus benefits. Start date is flexible, but can be as early as fall 2018. Applicants reviews will start Sep 17, 2018. Interested applicants should email Dr. Hilary Dugan at firstname.lastname@example.org with the following:
1) 1-page cover letter explaining their research experience and how it fits the required and preferred qualifications of the postdoctoral position, as well as how they envision the position to align with their future goals
2) a CV
3) names and contact information for three references
