Education:2008 Ph.D. Limnology and Marine Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Madison Research projects:My research focuses on invasive species, aquatic food webs, and stable isotope ecology. Specifically, my PhD research involves using stable isotope analysis to reconstruct the historical food webs of the Great Lakes. Waves of non-native species have entered the Great Lakes since the turn of the century. These non-native introductions have been partially blamed for the decline and extirpation of native fish species, such as the deepwater ciscoes. Understanding how the food web structure of the Great Lakes has changed over the last century will lend important insight into future management policies, including the reintroduction of extirpated native species. My graduate studies are partially funded by a fellowship from the UW- Madison Graduate Engineering Research Scholars (GERS) program. Publications:Schmidt, S.N., J.D. Olden, C.T. Solomon, and M.J. I enjoy hiking, camping, hunting, and fly-fishing. I also enjoy playing sports, especially volleyball, basketball, and softball. Finally, I've been known to play a little No Limit Texas Hold 'em. |
