Fisheries systems should be regarded as complex social-ecological systems in which humans and their target (fish populations) are closely linked and in which cross-scale interactions and feedbacks between social and ecological systems are the rule rather than the exception. We attack recreational fisheries from a multidisciplinary angle because we are convinced that disciplinary approaches cannot solve pressing the multifaceted challenges of sustainable management.
