Dr. Jake Vander Zanden

Dr. Jake Vander Zanden is a native of Neenah, WI, and received a Ph.D. at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Research interests include salmonid ecology, conservation biology, food webs, and exotic species. Jake was a Nature Conservancy Smith Conservation Research Fellow at the University of California-Davis (1999-2001). Since taking a faculty position at the Center for Limnology at University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2001, Jake has built a research program focused on the science-based management of aquatic ecosystems. In addition to projects in Mongolia, research in the Vander Zanden ranges from Wisconsin to Mexico, and includes studies of exotic species impact and eradication, the ecology of riparian buffers in agricultural landscapes, the importance of littoral zones in lakes, and the restoration of salmonid food webs ranging from the Sierra Nevada to the Laurentian Great Lakes. Jake teaches several courses at UW-Madison, including 'Limnology' and 'Ecology of Fishes'.
