
Designated Funds at the Center for Limnology
The Center for Limnology has several funds, many of them designated for specific goals. You are welcome to make a gift to the Center as a whole or designate your contribution to a specific focus.
Center for Limnology General Endowment Fund - This fund was established in 1983 and provides general support for programs in the Center for Limnology. We sincerely welcome contributions and bequests from interested alimni, friends, corporations and foundations.
Arthur D. Hasler Limnology Fund - This is an undesignated fund, providing general support for the Center for Limnology in teaching, research and public service. This fund honors Arthur D. Hasler, a 1937 Ph.D. graduate of the Univerisity of Wisconsin. Professor Hasler served as the Center's Director from 1937 to 1978, and was responsible for the creation of the Limnology Laboratory.
Anna Grant Birge Memorial Scholarship Fund - This fund provides summer support to graduate students in the field of limnology. Preference is given to those who are to be engaged in projects focusing on the lakes of Wisconsin.
Chase Noland Scholarship in Limnology - This fund provides support to undergraduate students who are interested in limnology. Each summer this fund provides a cash award to one or two oustanding undergraduate students who wish to pursue a summer research project.
William V. Kaeser Visiting Scholar Fund - This fund supports visiting national and international scholars in the field of limnology and other closely related fields. Its name honors William Kaeser, the architect and designer of the current limnology building which stands on the shores of Lake Mendota.
Dorothy Powers Grant and Eugene Lodewick Grant Memorial Scholorship Fund - This fund offers crucial summer support to one or more graduate students investigating the lakes of Wisconsin. Its name honors Eugene Grant, a 1917 graduate of the UW, and his wife Dorothy Powers Grant.
Chauncey Juday Limnological Data Fund - This fund allows for the development of modern data management and archival systems at the Center for Limnology. It also ensures that key measurements and samples are documented and preserved for future limnologists in Wisconsin. Its name honors Chauncey Juday, one of the founders of limnological sciences and the instructor of the first course in limnology at the UW in 1908.
Donald Halverson Limnology Fund - This fund allows for faculty development and national/international excellence. Its name honors Donald Halverson who received his MA in Letters & Science at the UW in 1918. He also became the first Director of the Department of Dormitories and Commons at the UW.
John J. Magnuson Limnology Library Fund - This fund supports the Limnology Library's mission of providing quality resources for students, faculty, and researchers around the world. The fund honors John Magnuson, Professor Emeritus of Zoology and Limnology at University of Wisconsin, and the Director of the Center from 1983 to 2000.
Kenneth W. Malueg Limnology Scholarship Fund - This fund provides support for graduate students at the Center for Limnology who show interest in limnological projects focused outside of the Madison area. This fund honors Kenneth Malueg, a Ph.D. graduate of Zoology at the University of Wisconsin.
Center for Limnology Community Fund - This fund is designated to support events and projects that establish and reaffirm the sense of community among the faculty, staff, students, and friends of the Center for Limnology. The fund allows for the members of the CFL to celebrate achievements, grieve the loss of family and friends, helps to support continuing relationships, and form new bonds with other members of the limnology community.
Jean B. and E.T. Juday Fund - This fund is designated for scholarships in support of undergraduate students who are interested in the environmental sciences relevant to Northern Wisconsin. The name honors Jean B. and E.T. "Tug" Juday, long-time friends of the Center for Limnology and family of Chauncey Juday.
