Education Outside the Classroom
The Center for Limnology participates in a number of outreach education efforts involving children and adults. The most visible of those efforts isCollege for Kids, Grandparent University, and Kites on Ice. Take a look at our scrapbook from those events - you may just want to join in.
In addition the Center for Limnology students, staff, and faculty participate in educational efforts throughout the state. John Magnuson currently serves on the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission, Professor Jake VanderZanden has spoken to city and county officials and participated in forums on Zebra Mussels. Dr. Tim Kratz has spoken to lake associations throughout the Northern Wisconsin area. Students have shared their research with associations, state officials, and eological groups throughout the state. LTER School Yard program , the Univeristy of Wisconsin Sea Grant project and the Center for Biology Educationprovides information, guidance and instruction to teachers and school children of all ages throughout the state.

The study of all inland waters and external influences that affect the nature of waters and the processes going on in them - concerned not only with the life in these waters, but also the chemistry and physics of the waters, the geology, meteorology, hydrology and bioecology of their drainage basins and the progressively greater influence of man on the total complex of life and processes in these waters.
The Center recieves calls from all over Wisconsin with questions about water, fish, aquatic habitat, and state reguations, The Center maintains a resource list and often times we refer calls to county and state agencies.
