The Center for Limnology Library collects materials on the topics of limnology and freshwater ecology. This is a non-circulating collection, so all materials must be used within the library. Please contact the librarian for further information about any of the materials listed below.



Books

Our book collection contains a selection of current and classic textbooks, identification guides and field manuals spanning aquaculture, aquatic biology/zoology, ecology, limnology and statistics. We also hold a collection of materials related to limnological history, as well as a few general reference resources.



Journals

  • Our journals are not cataloged in the UW-Madison library catalog - instead, browse our journal title list
  • Current issues are displayed in the Hasler Lab break room for 1-6 months
  • Back issues are shelved in the periodicals section, alphabetically by journal title


Article Reprints

Our article reprint collection includes approximately 10,000 journal articles, book sections, conference papers and unpublished reports. Many are authored by Center for Limnology faculty, staff, students, and affliliates; others report research conducted on southwestern or northern WI waters, or significant developments in the field of limnology.

A (growing) portion of the articles in our reprint collection are available electronically in the Center for Limnology Digital Library. The digital library is open to the public for searching, but access to article PDFs is restricted (by IP address) to users on Hasler Lab and Trout Lake Station networks.



Theses

We hold M.S. and Ph.D. theses from all Center for Limnology graduates, as well as students from other departments/institutions who conducted research at the Hasler Lab or Trout Lake Station.

  • Shelved in the first row of shelves, alphabetically by author last name


Government Documents

Our government documents collection contains publications of local, regional, national and international interest.

  • Some of our government documents can be searched in the UW-Madison library catalog; these are shelved by call number in the books section.
  • Many are not searchable at this time; they are shelved by geographic area and/or organization name in the government documents section
  • Contact the librarian for help searching our government documents


Newsletters

We receive newsletters from many limnology and ecology-related organizations. Most are held for only a short time, but a few are retained permanently.

  • Our newsletters are not cataloged in MadCat or Forward - list of holdings coming soon
  • Current Issues are displayed in the Hasler Lab break room
  • Back Issues are shelved at the end of the periodical section, alphabetically by title.

Many newsletters are also available online, from their authoring organizations - see newsletters available online.



Maps

We have an assortment of maps and atlases covering Wisconsin and the surrounding Great Lakes region.
